Two ICS research papers bag Best Scientific Paper awards
Two ICS research papers bag the Best Scientific Paper awards in two separate Themes in the recently concluded 7th International Society for Southeast Asian Agricultural Sciences (ISSAAS) Philippine National Convention and Annual Meeting held at SEARCA, College, Laguna on 25-26 October 2007. The convention's theme was Impacts of Climate Change and Biofuels on Agriculture. ISSAAS is an organization formed to encourage the holistic approach to problems and promote the progress and development of science and technology related to agricultural sciences through research and publication.
The paper entitled A Neural Network Model for Classifying Duck Eggs Using Computer Vision by A.L. Zarsuela and J.P. Pabico was awarded Best Paper Award in the Livestock and Feeds Theme (Theme 5) where a total of 5 papers were presented.
Similarly, the paper entitled Efficient Grading of Tomato Maturity Using a Majority-Vote Committee of Computer-Based Color Classifiers by J.P. Pabico and A.V. De Grano won the Best Paper Award besting 6 other papers in the Agricultural Productivity, Food Processing, and Food Safety Theme (Theme 6).
The convention, attended by prominent agricultural science researchers in the Philippines, had oral papers and posters presented under 6 different themes:
- Climate Change (11 papers)
- Alternative Fuels (8 papers)
- Social Entrepreneurship and Extension Concerns (5 papers)
- Natural Resource Management (8 papers)
- Livestock and Feed (5 papers)
- Agricultural Productivity, Food Processing, and Food Safety (7 papers)
There were 3 posters presented.
The two ICS research papers were improved Special Problem topics by two undergraduate students: Alona V. De Grano and Alan L. Zarsuela.
